Sixty degrees, a single large hole and a spiral rib, which together hand you control over the brew instead of taking it away. Almost every filter recipe written in the last fifteen years assumes this shape.
Ceramic rather than plastic because it holds heat through the pour, which is the one variable a beginner is least able to see and most affected by.
What it is bad at
It is unforgiving. A cone that hands you control also hands you the consequences, and the first fortnight will produce some genuinely poor coffee while you learn the pour.
